Since I realized I've had people friend this journal, I figured I should actually write something here that made sense to someone (myself included). Sooo, without further ado... *clearing throat*...
Introduction
Once upon a time, I was a kid. In most ways, I'm still a kid. Just about my favorite thing to do as a diminutive human being was play with dolls. I had Barbies. I had action figures (mostly Star Wars). But most of all, I had the Playskool Dollhouse. Any number of you growing up in the early 90's may remember it. Huge and plastic and pastel-colored and came with the barest minimum of furniture and a family of three -- Mum, Dad and baby. I played with them a great deal, but there's only so many storylines you can have with two boring parents and an infant. I almost stopped playing.
Then, on one miraculous day in Toys R Us, I realized what those money-grabbing bastards in the marketing department at Playskool had planned from the beginning -- accessory packs. Countless ones, which came with new furniture and a spare child and decorations galore. Over a very short period of time, my family acquired four more children, two dogs, a convertible, a stable with horses and a cousin with loose morals to ride them (she could never keep her legs closed), and and endless other things that sustained myself and my wild imagination for many many years to come. It was with a heavy heart around the age of 13 that I finally retired that dollhouse to my basement, but I did still play with it in secret sometimes. (You should have seen the element my Mulder and Scully action figures added to everything.) But eventually the further I got into my teen years the more I realized you're supposed to grow up, hate high school, and write really bad angsty poetry about how you have no friends. (I'm better now, honestly.)
And then I discovered The Sims.
Someone had taken my innate love for playing with dolls and put them in a computer game. And, based on how it was the best selling game of all time, eclipsing the Myst franchise (which then was MY favorite computer game of all time), it seemed like I wasn't the only one still obsessed with playing with dolls. So I bought it. And I bought every expansion pack except Superstar, for whatever reason. The eight-year-old was still lusting over her accessories, it seemed. Not to mention the amount of downloads out for it, for free, something I'd never been able to have with my childhood dollhouse. And the stories people would write using the sims fascinated me. I wanted to write some too. But I could never get creative enough. The Sims 1 was very limiting in a lot of ways, probably because they never thought it would catch on the way it did.
And then, a ray of light in an otherwise dark universe: The Sims 2.
The world was given it in September 2004. Being an avid Mac user, I was not able to get it until June 2005. The wait? Excrutiating. It just looked so magical. But, patience prevailed. And it was every bit as magical as I'd wished the first Sims to be, but wasn't. Who cares if I get the expansions a little bit later than everyone else?
So the playing began. And finally, inevitably, the stories began too. This is the product of my madness, of what goes on in my brain while playing. I'm eight years old again, gleefully clutching my fiercely loved dolls, propelling them forward into fathoms of intrigue. It's not art, it's done in my spare time, it's just supposed to be fun. If you're entertained by it, I'm quite flattered. I'm just a girl who likes telling stories.
Welcome.
Frequently Asked Questions
I always wanted to write one of these!
Q: Why in the flying fuck do you update so rarely?
A: I apologize, but I am extremely busy. I go to college full time and am close to finishing up a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing. I intern part time. When I'm not doing homework, I'm writing various side projects. I do photography a little bit. I'm trying to learn the guitar. (It's an uphill battle, but I know a few chords!) The Sims 2 is what I turn to when all the aforementioned stuff gets overwhelming, so you can understand how my progress is slow.
To make things worse, my laptop has been experiencing a series of problems lately which has caused it to die and be sent away for repairs for weeks at a time on THREE separate occasions. In this state of computerlessness, I am more concerned with getting all my assignments done on time in various on campus computer labs than with a game, as I'm sure you can understand. However, as of right now (11/19/06), said laptop is fully functional and back in my possession, and (I pray to the gods of Macs aka Steve Jobs that fucker) not going anywhere any time soon. So if you've still got me friended or whatever, that's great. If not, I understand and you can drop by whenever. :D
Q: Where the hell do you get your shit?
A: All over the internet. I can't remember where I got everything specifically, but I'll list the sites I've frequented and found most of them.
Paysites Must Be Destroyed! BEST SITE EVER GO THERE IMMEDIATELY!
Poison Pink Lemons Clothes galore.
Peggy Sims 2 Hair and female clothes.
SimCribbling Male hair.
XM Sims Hair, furniture.
Mod the Sims 2 Everything.
Helaene Makeup.
All About Style Clothing, especially elderly clothing.
If you can't find them here, chances are I've made them myself, or they were a gift from someone who made them herself, and are probably not up for download. Also, I'm using a lot of stuff from pay sites these days, so just be aware of that. But if they are available, and you point out something specific, I'll try to find the place where I found it for you.
Q: Where are the words on your title images from?
A: They're song lyrics. :D Songs are nice, and they make me giggle when I assign them to the ridiculosity of my simming adventures. I'll list the songs from which I got them here if anyone's really curious.
Legacy Family
Chapter 2: PJ Harvey - Pocket Knife
Chapter 3: The Cure - The Same Deep Water As You
Chapter 4: The Faint - Agenda Suicide
Q: Who the hell are you, anyway?
A: My name is Heather. I'm 21 years old. I'm a Writing, Literature and Publishing major at Emerson College in Boston, MA. I love music above all else, and plan to be in a band eventually. I'm not a people person, but constantly want new people to talk to, so don't be too afraid of me, because I don't bite. (Hard.) I have blond hair. I need to read more. I have corrective eyewear. I take pictures of abandoned places. I wish I was a gothic gunslinger. I like things that defy genres. I hate mediocrity and pretension. I like to laugh.
That about sums me up, I think.
